Grace in Knowledge: The importance of Discipleship
“To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:31-32
Whether you were brought up in a Christian home always believing in Jesus, or you came to faith later in life, following Jesus is always a life-long path. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus challenges all to understand and accept his words. Much of the Epistles were written to correct misunderstandings about the work of God and Christ.
Discipleship is that life-long path of following Jesus that is laid out for every believer. It’s about going deeper than the Sunday morning worship service and homily. At Church of the Holy Spirit, there are several opportunities to pursue discipleship and grow in your faith in God and understanding of his Word.
Note… during the COVID pandemic, many of these programs were shut down or curtailed. As of the end of 2021, we are beginning to open them all back up. It’s been a slow process, so please be patient with us as we navigate our responsibilities to everyone.
Adult Sunday School
After the morning worship service at 9am, we invite all the adults and Youth to the Parish Hall for refreshments and a time of discussion about the Bible. We have been spending time going through material presented by the Bible Project. In this format, we watch a short video on a particular biblical topic and then discuss.
Weekly Bible Studies
Weekly Bible studies have yet to restart. Stay tuned right here or in our newsletter and announcements in order to find out more details.
Cursillo/Ultreya
The Cursillo movement’s purpose is to help those in the church understand their individual calling to be Christian Leaders through the use of a specific method that equips and encourages those Christian leaders to live out their Baptismal Covenant to serve Christ. It is a national movement within the church that is directly focused on fellowship and discipleship. It starts with a three day weekend intended to enrich and deepen your faith by bringing together a diverse group of Episcopalians to share the richness of many modes of worship and to broaden each one’s appreciation for our church. Ultreya is an ongoing “reunion of reunions” held monthly to build the larger Episcopal community to share their communal experiences.
